The best partnerships are never pitched

The best partnerships are never pitched. That is not luck. It is a system.

Jason Katz June 23, 2026

Hi,

You are asking too soon.

You know what you want. A partner, a hire, an investor, a deal. You have done the preparation and the pitch is solid. You reach out and state your case.

Sometimes it works. More often, you get silence. The thread goes cold. You follow up twice and move on.

The problem is not the pitch. It is the sequence.

The Deposit Problem**

Every professional relationship runs on a ledger. Most founders make withdrawals before they have made deposits.

The operators who build the best partnerships, attract the strongest talent, and close the most durable deals do not push. They show up consistently, share what is useful, and create value with nothing immediately attached. Over time, this builds something the pitch never could: the position of someone worth pulling in.

Trust is not a soft skill. It is a compounding asset. And like any compounding system, it requires consistent inputs before it starts to return.

Slow is not the wrong speed. It is the only speed that builds durable leverage.

Most founders try to compress the timeline. The timeline is the work.

Who in your professional orbit are you adding value to consistently, with nothing asked in return?

Onward.

Relevant

**Relational networking compounds. Volume networking doesn’t.*****One conversation today may become a referral in six months; an introduction made in passing may evolve into a partnership years later. Founders who treat networking as a long-term strategy rather than a sales tactic build the kind of professional depth that cannot be replicated through volume or speed.

*Trust compounds. Transactions don’t.*****Consistent, unglamorous behavior showing up, following through, adding value before asking, creates a compounding effect where trust leads to referrals, referrals deepen relationships, and relationships reinforce trust. When markets shift and tactics stop working, trust is the only growth asset that holds.

*Buyers decide before the first conversation.*****By the time a buyer or partner reaches out, perception is already formed, which means trust is either being built or eroded long before any formal conversation begins. The operators who win are not the most aggressive; they are the ones who positioned themselves inside strategic dialogue well before demand existed.
