Success isn't measured in dollars. It's measured in minutes.
The grind is a trap.
I laughed out loud. Alone in traffic. It wasn’t the enlightened kind of laugh, either. More like the laugh of someone realizing they’d spent years climbing the wrong mountain.
Here’s the thing: your real success isn’t measured in dollars. It’s measured in minutes.
The grind is a trickster. It whispers that if you just push harder, stack one more zero, close one more deal, you’ll finally get to rest. But the finish line keeps moving. The prize for running faster is usually more running.
And yet we keep buying the myth. The luxury brands, the high-gloss upgrades, the lifestyle content that tells us abundance looks like excess. But what if real luxury is subtraction?
Less noise.Less schedule.Less proving.
I’ve started testing that theory. A few weeks ago, I left my phone at home and went hiking near Evergreen. No photos, no podcasts, no metrics. Just wind and pine needles. For the first mile I kept reaching for a phone that wasn’t there. By mile three, I realized the quiet wasn’t empty. It was full.
That felt like wealth.
The kind of wealth that isn’t taxed or tracked or shown off. The kind that grows every time you say no to the wrong things.
So maybe that’s the question worth asking. What if you measured success by how much unclaimed time you have left?
If your business doesn’t give you that, maybe it’s not a business. Maybe it’s a very expensive cage.
Start small. Block an hour on your calendar and label it “Luxury.” Guard it like a client meeting. Spend it doing something that returns you to yourself, a long breakfast, a walk without earbuds, a real conversation.
Do it not because it’s productive. Do it because it’s precious.
The grind will still be there when you get back. It always is. But you’ll be different.
And that difference is the real flex.
